JA, I know three or four people in the repair business and the one thing that is common among them is that they all have one machine set aside for their personal/business use.  And they don't do any testing one that one machine.  That might be something for you to consider. Not risking the primary computer sounds like a good idea to me.

John, from your reply it seems my post was not clear, or you miss read it.  I wasn't talking about a dedicated testing machine, just the reverse.  One machine you never use for testing.  That way you will always have at least one solid computer.

There really isn't anything smart or special that I did with my W10 installation, JA. I built my 2 new systems and then did a clean installation of W10 on both. Once W10 was fully functional, I installed my favorite programs.

Keep in mind that I never dual boot, and I don't install needless programs, utilities, etc. I install only what I need and from trusted sources. I also don't push or tweak my systems to the breaking point. In return, I have very few (if any) problems. Both of my computers have been running W10 flawlessly for months now.

After you recover what you can from the WD HD, you could try formatting it to see if maybe the failure of all 4 partitions has to do with the hardware, or the setup.

IIRC you have to do both, first the upgrade and then the clean install; scuzzy can tell you why.  Something to do with the key, I think.

Originally you had to install 10 on top of 7. However, you can now do a clean installation of W10 and then activate it with the W7 license.

Scuzzy; I'm activated with cinnamon flavored brew.

Tried Keurig, but I was stunned by the high cost of coffee. Went back to percolating with a used sweat sock, which probably averages out to 5 cents a cup.

Scuzzy; grounded.

Sorry, but $0.31 per cup is still too rich for my wallet.

We average $20 p/month for drip coffee. My wife and I average 6 cups per day, or 180 cups per month. My calculator says that comes out to $0.11 per cup. Even with your low cost solution, that would be $56 monthly for us. Ouch.

Scuzzy; keeping my sweat socks.

I tried several varieties of K-cup; didn't find one I liked, I'll stick with Mr. Coffee, thanks just the same.  At some point JA was using each K-cup twice.

Yeah, that too. We could not find anything as good as the ground coffee we're using now.

I really have nothing against Keurig, and I know a lot of people use the product. Every now and then it's what people share with me at the office, which is always nice. It's just didn't work out for us in our home.

Better hope it doesn't break. Newer machines have a chip that will not accept none K-cup cups.

I tried the ground coffee adapter. Aside from the inconvenience, it always left fine sediment at the bottom of the cup. The taste was not as good as fresh brewed through the drip coffee maker either.

I did the math, JA. We average $0.11 per cup with ground coffee. We use Don Francisco Gourmet Coffee - Cinnamon Hazelnut, purchased locally at $5 per 12oz can. We normally get 8 days per can, at an average of 6 cups of joe per day. If we settled for regular coffee, such as the Kirkland brand 3-lb can, it would be closer to 3 cents a cup.

Um, I don't have a Keurig machine. Idle or otherwise.
