Title: Dell U2715H 27-inch Monitor
Post by: scuzzy on October 03, 2015, 19:42 hrs
Bill, that Dell U2715H 27-inch monitor (http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00P0EQD1Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1443919263&sr=1-1&keywords=dell+ultrasharp+u2715h) ($469.99) you linked is starting to look pretty sweet. This ASUS PB278Q 27-inch monitor (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009C3M7H0/ref=psdc_1292115011_t2_B00P0EQD1Q) ($399.99) also has possibilities.

I'll have a trainee later this month, which should equate to some overtime pay by Christmas.  ;D

The Dell I originally looked at was a 24" 16:10 ratio, much friendlier to documents with more vertical real estate.  The one you linked to above is 16:9.  However I could not find either a Dell or ASUS in 27" that is 16:10, only 16:9.  But hey,  you've been talking about a 'big honking monitor' for a long time.  Go for it, are you going to buy 2, one for your wife's system.  No?  Then she probably deserves a new M&P 9mm C, or if it's really for her maybe a Shield in 9, and retire that big. top-heavy double action thing to backup status!
Either gun is less expensive than the 27" monitor! :D

I like your thinking... about the Shield 9mm that is. :)

With the QHD resolution (2560x1440), I'm not overly concerned about 16:10 vs 16:9. While 2 of those monitors would be great, it's too much of an expense and I don't have the real estate on my desk. But a pair of the 24" (1920x1200) could work. Hmm.

Scuzzy; I love these kind of problems.

Me too.  I'd vote for the 2 24"s, I really like dual monitors, more flexible, I think, than one big one.  And not too much different in price.

Yep, you are right about the flexibility. A pair of 24s would fit nicely, and the price is doable. The 1200 vertical resolution would easily meet my needs, too. A pair of 24" monitors would give me 3800 x 1200 to work with (16:5). The bezels on the Dell are also very thin, which helps a lot.

The quick specs for the 24" Dell monitor shows it is 20.2" wide, so a pair would come out to 40.4" total. My desk hutch would allow up to 40.3". But slightly turning the monitors would easily allow a good fit.

Hmm. The quick specs show the 24" monitor is 20.2" wide, but the 25" monitor is 18.4" wide. Something ain't right.

Okay, I checked the full specs at the Dell site. The 24" U2415 monitor (http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=sg&l=en&s=dhs&cs=sgdhs1&sku=391-BBUX) is 20.95" wide. The 25" U2515H monitor (http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=sg&l=en&s=dhs&cs=sgdhs1&sku=391-BBZF) is 22.4" wide.

Seems like that would work.. I can tell you from experience, you will end up tilting both monitors in a little and that will help with the desk space. And the larger they are, the more you will tilt them.  It makes viewing the extreme left and right of the screens easier to see.
