Here is one that I took back in February of 1999, at that point I had this for a couple of years and it was the first time it bloomed that I had it.



I assume it is some sort of Christmas cactus. What makes it special to me is that it has been in my family for a very long time. I inherited it from my mother who inherited it from her father. My mother always told me she could remember it from when she was a young adult. I guess it to be somewhere in the 60-70 year old category, perhaps more. I certainly remember from when I was young.

It's still doing well and is about ready to start blooming again for this year. I simply keep it watered and move it outside when weather permits and bring it in again before frost. I have very little in the line of keepsakes so this is special to me.

Geez, I had no idea plants lived that long (excepting trees.)  I guess it being a cactus makes the difference.
