Home Depot is selling them online by the 6-pack. (Note: Home Depot site doesn't play well with Firefox.) Once they hit store shelves they should be individually available.

I have a lot of faith in Cree, as their LED diodes (the part the produces the light) are in all of my tactical flashlights. The bigger problem is the circuitry behind the diode. But I doubt Cree will use cheap electronics, as their name will be prominent on the product. The 10-year warranty also says a lot.
