1. When I click on my Email shortcut icon (on my desktop), my Email opens in two different windows. This also happens sometimes when opening other programs.

2. Quite often, when clicking somewhere on a web page, a program shortcut on my desktop (hidden under the web page) will open that particular program.

I am using Windows XP-S3, Internet Explorer 8.0

Try a different mouse if you have one handy and see if problem persists.

If you use a wireless mouse make sure the batteries up fresh, when my batteries are going down I can get some crazy things going on with a mouse click

I would start with running a registry cleaner. My favorite is CCleaner, which is free and very effective.

If that doesn't get it done, try installing Microsoft's free PowerToy TweakUI utility for Windows XP. Once installed, run the icon repair tool. It might be a little of a long shot, but that may be the problem.

Another thought is that the second problem could be caused by a bad video driver. You may want to make sure that you are running the latest driver.

I use Windows XP-S3, Zone Alarm Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware.

Besides problems mentioned before, I am now having pages jump ahead twice, or jump back twice, when I click on Forward or Back buttons. And now, more often than not, I must right click on a link then left click on "Open", rather than just open a link with a single left click.

All-in-all, I believe my only course is to reinstall my Windows operating system, while saving my "Documents" on my external hard drive. There must be some loose pieces somewhere that are causing these anomalies.

I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks for replies so far.
