Yeah it's me again

My Epson Perfection 3490 Photo Scanner has suddenly stopped producing images.

Everything appears normal. The built-in troubleshooter says "no issues detected, it makes all the usual scanning noises, it has been only very lightly used, but the files it now produces are rectangular white blanks.

I reinstalled the drivers from the Epson support web site.

Any ideas from my favorite experts?

I have had similar issues with my Epson scanner. I've resolved them in the past with:

1. Moving the cable to a different USB connector
2. Replacing the USB cable
3. Removing and reinstalling the software

Naturally, rebooting inbetween.

Using the original Epson 3490 scanner installation disk I have apparently been able to get the scanner to work normally again. Hurrah!

Unfortunately, the disk also installed these on my PC :

 Epson File Manager
 Epson Copy Utility 3
 Epson Event Manager
 Epson Scan Assistant
 Epson Attach to Email
 ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5

Can someone tell me how many of these I can uninstall without adversely affecting use of the scanner?

You only need the driver and the interface. The rest are features you can remove if you don't use them. The only thing I have installed is the driver and the interface called "Epson Scan".

Delete them one-by-one. Worst case scenario is that you'll have to reinstall something.

Understood and thanks so much scuzzy.

I had already been looking for what new scanner I might have to buy. And they're more expensive now than I would have thought.

Thankfully scanners last a long time, on average. It's usually the driver/software that becomes outdated for newer operating systems.

I'm happy you got it all worked out.
