I have obtained a ton of excellent, free songs from Google Play over the last few months; much of it Classic Rock. Admittedly, some of the free songs are at times horrific trash. But today's free tune (March 28th) is pretty decent:

Note that you must have a Google account and a credit card number on file to get the free songs. You then have to "buy" the song for free. It's never been an issue with me, and the MP3 songs are always 320 kbps quality. I've also obtained some excellent albums at incredible sale prices.
