One of them is obviously overheating.

But, how do you determine which one?

It is obviously not the battery -2 Mths old, happens when plugged in to PP as well.
Fan comes on full 10 mins or so before shutdown.

Rather reluctant to give to computer store! (Long Story)

  • In an emergency, 9-1-1 calls ME.

This is most likely caused by overheating. If so, the only way to resolve the problem will be to disassemble and find out what is malfunctioning.

It could be something as simple as clogged cooling vents/ports.

OK, Thanks Lads.

Will strip it down the Weekend and give it the thorough.

Knew it meant a stripdown, just looking for views beforehand, maybe a previous similar fault.

Brez.

  • The Ghost who walks. Slowly.

Curious; will it reboot (immediately) after it shuts down?  Does it then crash, or stay up for a couple hours and do the repeat..?
Is it hot to the touch..?  Any battery readings to note, for time remaining/capacity left?
Wondering if it's collapsing, or sleep mode, or ...?  always at the same time in?
The monitoring software makes sense, as I watched that for a PC that would overheat and could watch the temps rise...

I live in Ireland, free consultations/quotes rarely exist!
My last one cost more than i paid for the laptop!:
Yes i did a LOT of stripdowns on the D600's, so familiar with "Digi Finger" work.

Hi long time since we spoke last.
Will not reboot until maybe 30 mins following SD. then run for approx an hour.
Touch at one end very warm but not hot. Batt shows full.
Collapsing completely, no wake up at all, boots from scratch after a cooling spell.
Hoping its just a fan problem.

UPDATE:
Getting very hot around fan area, and shutting down.
Fan is not turning on.
Have another CPU and Fan in case it is one of those.
Have not had time for stripdown yet because of family death(Mother in Law).
Any views?

God Bless the vacuum cleaner!

The problem was nothing more than a fan jammed by dust particles.
The edge of a paperclip to free the fan and a vacuum cleaner attached to rubber sleeve to suck out all dust!
Hence, no stripdown needed.
