Open web page.

Right-click on the web page and choose "Save as..."

When the "Save as" window appears, select "Desktop" on left side

Use existing "File name" or type new name

Click on "Save"

I have not used Opera in well over a decade, but can't you just drag and drop the URL onto the desktop? That works for me in both Firefox and IE.

No, won't work in Opera. However, I posted this "solution" before I discovered that two shortcuts appear on the desktop and deleting either one deletes both. So maybe this solution is suitable for temporary access only (unless your desktop is less cluttered than mine)

That's odd. I've never even heard of that problem. Have you tried this easy solution?:

1. Copy the URL
2. Right-click on your desktop
3. Select New>>>Shortcut

Paste the URL into the location field, and then click next to give it a name.

It's quick and easy. It actually takes longer to explain it than to do it.

In my original search for "desktop icon in Opera" I found many solutions that didn't work, so I assumed it was a difficult problem.

Now I've found that you need only shrink the web page size, grab the little icon (called a "favicon") at the left end of the address bar and drag it to your desktop.

I hope I've got this right finally. I'm trying to "pay back" to Poasters for all the great help I've previously received here.

Thanks for sharing the solution, hoosier. I am certainly glad you got it figured out. :)

So this solution gives you only a single shortcut on your desktop, yes?
