Bird Cage?

Did you ever get your home theater setup or is it a work in progress?  I don't recall you mentioning it beyond that V bought you a big TV.

The TV was mounted quite some time ago, and the room is furnished (although sparsely). It will slowly get better, but for now it's enjoyable. Improving the sound system will likely be next.

As you think about upgrading your sound, Pay alot of attention to the number of speakers your chosen AVR will support. I did not when I bought my SONY.
Take a guess about how many you want and then add capability for 4 more.

Most likely I'll start out with an easy upgrade, such as a high quality soundbar/subwoofer setup. Part of my mentality is keeping it simple, as it's easy to go overboard when it comes to sound. I once had a high-end Yamaha receiver that required a PhD in physics, with a minor in Remote Control Devices.

It doesn't help that sound systems continue to evolve on what seems like a yearly basis.

You know, I didn't mean to come across as flippant on this (if'n I did). Your experience on setting up your sound system remains valuable to me. "Starting out simple" for me is a matter of budget more than anything.

I didn't think you were, just stating the facts.  One could spend a fortune on a home theater system, I probably spent too much on speakers but after all I enjoy what I've invested in.  If my room were more accommodating I likely would have spent more.
