  • In an emergency, 9-1-1 calls me.

It's official. I am now an iPhone owner, having kicked Android to the curb. I went to Costco yesterday and picked up my very own iPhone SE 2020, 64 GB in white. It was the last model they had in white, in any capacity.

Out the door, the phone was $389.69. At the last moment, I added a 2-year AppleCare plan for an additional $74.99. I'm sure my daughter will appreciate it, since it will be her phone in a couple months. I wasn't able to pick up the phone case she wanted, due to the local Apple Store taking customers by appointment only.

I spent the latter part of the day setting up the SE at home and getting to know it. It has some quirks compared to Android, but I'll adjust. For example, iOS does not support speed dial. Odd. I added 2 or 3 apps, and will likely add more today. I also had to learn Apple's way of setting up my favorite contacts, which was confusing at first.

First impressions are good. I'm thrilled with the physical size of the phone, and so far the small 4.7" display is workable. However, I can see myself wanting at least the 5.4" screen when the iPhone 12 rolls out.

As for the old Samsung Galaxy Note 9, I will reset the phone in a few days and then put it up for sale. After messing with the iPhone SE for a few hours, I now dread the monstrous Note 9 more than ever.

Thanks, but I ordered a cheap case on Amazon for now that will arrive tomorrow. In the end, Megan can go out and get her own. Lol

So far things are going well with the new SE. I'm still adjusting to the iOS way, as it hasn't always been smooth as far as the setup goes. However, it's getting better the more I play with it and learn my way around. So far I have no regrets, despite whatever gripes I may have. I love the size of the phone, and the 4.7" screen is fine. I took it out on the motorcycle on a very bright day, and I had no issues reading the screen as I went down the road, sunglasses and all.

Yesterday I managed to transfer and install my own custom ringtones that I made for my Android phones. It was a bit of effort at first, but once I figured it out it just hummed along. It's quite a bit more steps than installing on an Android phone, but it works. This morning I woke to my custom alarm ringtone, and it worked just fine.

This morning I noticed an offer for a 1-year trial of Apple TV, so I took it. We'll see how it works when I connect my phone to my TV.

I used the speakerphone when I talked to my sister yesterday, and I was very impressed. It runs circles around my Note 9. Overall I'm so happy with the phone, that I could see myself pocketing an SE for next couple years and passing up on the iPhone 12 for now. Time will tell.

I'm looking forward to the phone case arriving today. The SE is darn slick in its birthday suit.

FYI there is a setting for all calls to be routed to the Speakerphone automatically.
This you tube has good recommendations for important settings to consider:

I received my temporary phone case today (clear model), and it's pretty darn sweet for $6.99. I'm impressed by how responsive the buttons are, and they provide a satisfying click. My UAG case could learn a lot from them when it comes to the button department. The case won't offer high-end protection from drops and other forms of abuse, but it will suffice for my needs.

It took a couple tries and a couple Google searches, and an online update to my T-Mo account, but I got T-Mo WiFi calling working on my SE. Aside from that, I'm probably 95% there. Just a few odds and ends still need to be done, but it can wait.

As for mobile browsing, I'll stick to Safari until Firefox Beta goes stable for iOS. Safari works fine for my needs, but of course it's not tied in to my FF account. I'm not big on Google Chrome, especially with all the privacy issues. I never used it once on my Note 9 anyway, and I rarely use it on my PC.

That's a good idea re FF. Safari works and I don't do a lot of browsing with my cell.
