blue ray and dvd recorder incompatible?
« on: Nov 21, 2011, 09:09 PM »
The panasonic dvd recorder I have is going bad. It will record on a rewritable disk but if you erase a program you don't get the space back and it renders the entire disk unusable so you can't view any other programs. So I wanted to get a blue ray player with dvd recording but apparently they don't mix. You can get either but not both in one unit. Is this right and why?

You can buy Bluray drives that just playback Bluray and record DVD/CD or playback and record Bluray as well as DVD/CD.

Note that you will need a third party software to play Bluray disks, windows does not support that natively. Most retail drives will ship with some version of software to play Bluray movies, however it's usually not the latest version. OEM may or may not ship with software.

Pat can you refer me to a unit? I haven't found one that clearly states you can record dvd's on a blue ray player.

Just to verify, we are talking drives for computers?

My mistake then, I thought we were talking about optical drives for computers.
