internet tracking
« on: Feb 17, 2012, 10:47 hrs »
I have started using/testing a tracking blocker that stops companies and social networks from gathering info on what you do and where you visit.  It is specific by browser and compatible with FF and Chrome, not yet with IE.  If you use 2 different browsers as I do, you must download for each.  Named Do Not Track+ from Abine, and its free.

I have yet to fine a site where it interfers.
Might be worth looking at:  http://www.abine.com/dntdetail.php?

I just checked again and apparently it works with IE and I have installed there too.

The slowness seemed to be when loading new pages although its sporadic.  Maybe a function of the net rather than the app.

I decided to give this a shot. I am happy to report that Poasters.com is not tracking anyone, except for Ace.

Scuzzy; he's currently in the closet mopping the sink.

No, it is not the same as private browsing. Try cnn.com, for example.

I knew that Poasters would come up clean as we do not track visitors in any manner, nor do we advertise. We only track Ace because he wears muddy shoes and stomps around the forum.

Scuzzy; and he licks his fingers to turn the page.

I have DNT+ in Firefox but not WOT.  I have WOT in Chrome but, apparently, not DNT+.  Not sure how that happened.  I don't know if those two are compatible or not.  I am going to try to install WOT in FF now to see.

EDIT: I just installed WOT in FF but the icon is not showing in the upper right corner but DNT+ icon is showing.  Puzzling........

Aha, just to the right of the address window and to the left of the search window.  Guess I missed it, but now they are both showing in  FF.

I have reinstalled DNT for Chrome and it shows as enabled in the list of extensions but the WOT icon is where the DNT icon should be.  I have restarted Chrome to no avail.
Guess it's not worth messin' with, I know it's there.
