When I restart my computer there is a name on the sign-in page just above the sign-in rectangle  (I don't know what to call it, it's not my computer's name)

In my case it's my email address, except misspelled

Can I correct that name ?

I'm sorry, I don't use W10, scuzzy has a W10 machine.

  • In an emergency, 9-1-1 calls ME.

If you have a local account on your machine, then this is a simple function. Go into your Control Panel and select User Accounts. From there, select "Change your account name".

This should resolve it for you, but if your computer is logged in to Microsoft you may have to take different steps. If so, this guide will help:

How to change account name on the Windows 10 Sign-in screen

Thanks for reply Scuzzy

If I go in via Control Panel, I find no selection called "Change your account name"

When I try the "How to change account name on the Windows 10 Sign-in screen"
I find I can change my given name, but no way to change name on the sign-in screen

Nag nab it anyway

To get to the "Change your account name" in the control panel, you must first select "User Account" within the control panel. Once there, you'll see the option to change your account name. It should be there, as your W10 machine mandates user accounts in order to work.

I absolutely refuse to tie in my computer to my Windows account, so if the Control Panel trick does not work for you, I unfortunately won't be able to guide you.

I selected User Account, but there is no "Change User Name" selection there. Guess I'm stuck, but thanks for trying
