Often we need additional charging cables with new phones. Apple-branded cables can be pricey, but thankfully there's good alternatives. I've been using Anker products for years now, and I find it hard to trust anything else. Their Lightning cables are Apple MFI certified, and are available in various sizes and jackets.
I recommend you be careful on what Lightning cables you buy. Avoid the worthless, uncertified, crappy, dime-a-dozen cables often found in convenience stores, gas stations, etc. You'll just be buying garbage.
Here's what I received yesterday from Amazon:
Anker Powerline+ Lightning Cable (6-ft) (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0177NSA9A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) - To connect to my computer.
Anker 3.3ft Premium Double-Braided Nylon Lightning Cable (3.3-ft) (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B078NPDRHL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) - To use in my car (3.3-ft vs 3-ft is nice).
Anker 2-pack Powerline Lightning Cable (4-in) (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCL75QK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) - To use with my portable Anker power bank.
Anker Powerline II Lightning Cable (1-ft) (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N522SM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) - To use on my Harley

At the moment I'm using the supplied power plugin block and the supplied cable. Are you suggesting the apple products are not sufficient? It's in the kitchen no where near a USB port.

The supplied Apple cable and charger are sufficient and of good quality, and I'm not implying there's anything wrong with them. However, if you need extra USB-A to Lightning cables then I find it easy to recommend Anker.
