OK JA, time to drag out all your master boot record experience!  I  turned off the new system this morning to check a cable, closed the case and tried to power up.  After the POST message on screen was
"Boot Manager Missing  push ctrl-alt-delete to restart"

After a second cup of coffee, the first thing I was going to do was a system image, guess now I don't have to do that just yet.

Short of formatting and a complete reinstall, any suggestions.  I suppose I can try a repair,  I think I can get into BIOS during POST to change boot order and use the win 7 disc.

The first time didn't work.  Second time didn't work but showed an O/S on the F drive not C.  Thinking there may be remnants of 7 or XP on the 2nd or 3rd drives, I disconnected all but C and about to try again.

B; geez I hate typing on a notebook KB.

I have one, its on my main system.  Anyhow  after disconnecting drives 2 &3, I reran the install disc, chose repair and the message on the screen now-  "This version of System Recovery Option is not compatible with the  version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using another that is..........

I think there is probably not an option except to format and reinstall, what say you?

BIOS is still DVD 1st.  The XP disc and a Win 7 32bit repair disc were both rejected.  Going to try the 7 64bit disc again but........ failing there I have run out of ideas.

On your other comment about the keyboard, Logitech has a really wireless one.......

Before that, I restarted from a cold boot and the win 7 64 disc was recognized, tried repair, couldn't find any problems.  I selected Restore and that is in process now.  Fingers crossed.

Using win 7 to create backup image now, saving to E:\.  Have to go get some DVD RWs this PM.
Will do another and save to disc later.

Thanks John.

This morning after my new system had been running for 24 hours +, I checked the temps, and the cpu was running 70-72C, about the top of the safety range.

So, I took the whole thing apart, removed the M/B to install the Noctura double fan cooler that takes up so much dang space.  System is now back under the desk and according to Speccy, the cpu is running about
40C, about a 30 degree difference, a very large improvement!

Just for reference the new video card is 55C and the M/B and Hds are 35C.  And of interest to Scuzzy, the only thing I can hear, if I really try, is the front intake fan.
