JA,

Thanks to your positive experience with replacing a laptop screen, I'll be giving it a shot also. My daughter recently obtained a fairly nice Gateway T-6836 14" (1280x800) laptop that will be in need of a new screen.

I checked the site you recommended and watched the video. It looks simple enough. laptopscreen.com shows a suitable replacement for $64.99. I just don't know if we'll go for a matte or glossy display.

I just finished installing a clean copy of Windows 7 64-bit on the laptop, and it's currently going through the endless updates.  ::)

The screen is still working and usable, but it has some spots that resembles black graphite being thrown across the screen. There are dark specks all over; just enough to be noticeable.

Thanks for the advice. When the time comes, I'll put it to good use. I probably won't order the screen for a couple weeks, as there's currently no hurry.

My daughter purchased the laptop for $120 (her own money from babysitting), which included a new Windows 7 upgrade disc. I helped her with purchasing a new battery (Dr. Battery), and I'll help her with the screen replacement.
