I cook and get a lot of recipes off the web. The nyt offers great recipes free. They are usually accompanied by a nice color photo. I copy the recipe into Word, then copy and paste the photo too, then print it out. I've got around 200 recipes like this. For some reason I can no longer get the photo. I right click the photo, copy image, and instead of the picture its either blank or a box with nothing in it. Isn't there some setting that controls this? Thanks

Bill

Also worked for me using Chrome and Kingsoft Writer.

It works as it always has in IE. But not Mozilla. I looked for something in settings but didn't see anything. I have version 23.0.1. Is there a way to go back to an earlier version to see if it works?

after googling the problem, there was a suggestion to go to the help tab, click on troubleshooting, then there is a screen that comes up that you can click to reset mozilla to its factory state. I did that and it now works as before. For now, problem solved. Thanks for all your input,

It's actually: 'Reset Firefox to its default state'

It saved bookmarks, etc, no visible change occurred.

well, I'm sorry, I spoke to soon. I KNEW I should have tested it this morning before saying anything else. It's now not working. I went back and tried the resetting thing and it still won't copy & paste a photo to Word. While researching this I heard a lot of complaints that the newer versions of ff are causing many problems. I'll have to go back to ie until they get their act together, if ever, seeing as they are more and more becoming as arrogant as microsoft.

Yeah, scuzzy I was considering chrome but i'm disgusted at this amateurish microsoft-like problem. It's just some small glitch they could easily correct but won't.

chopin,
Chrome is produced by Google, completely separate from FF and MS.  You might want to try it, I think it is better than FF and definitely better than IE.

Didn't take long to get a problem with this one. I've learned the hard way that when you install a program, you have to very carefully examine the windows that come up during the install. They often have garbage that will ruin your day if you are not careful. They will sometimes require you to de-select boxes that are checked to install bad things on your computer. One is what appears to be a simple, benign, safe little ole search program. If you don't de-select it you will be hounded with obnoxious ads. Then when you try to get rid of it you will go through torture to the point of water boarding. I installed this chrome deal and don't remember any alien windows coming up during the install. However, whenever I click the open button in addition to the google search screen I get another tab for another search program. See it here but be careful it may be bad for your computer's health:

http://search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT3298566&SearchSource=48&CUI=UN61862798726443213&UM=2

I've been harassed by this conduit bandit before and had a hard time getting rid of it. However this one isn't even listed in the programs in control panel. It apparently came with chrome, which is really disappointing. Esp since I see no way to get rid of it. Is this sop?

I hate replying to my  own posts-

Chopin,
You might want to try the Junk Removal Tool here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/

I have found this to be a very effective tool.

Chopin,

Google's Chrome is a highly respected browser; considered by many to be the best available. If you downloaded Chrome directly from Google, it seems impossible that it would be laced with any kind of crap.

A few days ago I installed Chrome on my main system and it's working perfect. I don't recall having to uncheck any options during the installation.

Don't get too excited, Bill.  ;D

I was curious to see how my Google account would come together on Chrome as compared to FF. However, I'm not seeing any significant advantage. So for now the Chrome icon sits on my taskbar gathering e-dust.

Really strange! I dl it from google and there were no boxes to check. It's really weird because it would be competing with the google search. Hackers are getting worse. I recently received an email from someone I know, someone whose email I am famaliar with. It looked fully legitimate. It wanted me to click on a link to receive pictures from this person. It was not legitimate but from a hacker. It asked for my email & password which would have given it access to my contacts also.

Thanks Bill. I dl the junk removal program. It deleted 14 pages of stuff on my computer!! Two of the entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\conduit
Successfully deleted: [Registry Key]

Successfully deleted: [Folder] "C:\Users\Chopin\appdata\local\conduit"

I uninstalled chrome, then re-installed it. It appears the creepy conduit search program may be gone. From previously getting onto my computer it apparently hid something somewhere so that when I installed chrome it re-surfaced. The hackers are like rats, they are relentless.

THis is all confusing. Why doesn't the spyware programs like malwarebytes address these? This is the first time I had heard of this program. It never came up in researching programs to remove garbage from the computer. It took out 14 pages of junk so it must have accumulated over a long period of time. Anyway, thanks for the link. I want to put it into an icon and put it on the windows screen so I can run it regularly. Thanks again.

Incredible, it didn't get rid of it!! I got off the web, worked on a document for about 10 minutes. Before retiring for the night I opened chrome to see if it was clean and it is still there! My home screen is google and there is a tab next to it that says 'search'. It is the conduit garbage shown at the link above. It has infected the computer in some other way. I looked under Program Files in windows and didn't see anything with that name. It's like some animal gets in your house at night and you can't find it to kill it.  ???

I'll run cc cleaner to see what that does.

Turned on computer this morning and opened chrome. Conduit tab there. I looked in task manager and it shows chrome running but nothing else. The creep has somehow piggy backed onto chrome and become a part of it. How can it do this?

cc cleaner no use here. I'm running security essentials but don't expect any help from it.

chopin, Try running malwarebytes in safe mode.

You might also try the folowing but please note, I have not used this program but it is highly recommended by malware specialists.
This is specifically for removing toolbars and the like.

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/dl/125/

Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool

I feel like an idiot. I was installing chrome for SO at her business & up came a window in settings: 'on setup open a specific page'. It has urls for those pages, an many or as few as you want to open when you open chrome. I came back home and looked and there it was, one of the opening pages was the conduit search thing. I know for sure I didn't put it there. However, all you do is delete it and its gone. Maybe now its really gone, unless there is something putting that url back.
