  • In an emergency, 9-1-1 calls ME.

I'm tired of giving Dropbox $99.99 a year to host my files. I finally decided to invest the money in a high speed portable SSD instead that I can connect to the new router. I took advantage of a sale and bought this Samsung T5 500GB Portable SSD at Amazon for $97.99. It should arrive this Friday, along with my new ASUS router.

Cloud storage was very convenient when I was on Patrol, but I can't justify a need anymore. I find it frustrating that I was only using 100GB, but Dropbox forced me to pay for a 1TB plan. If I should need cloud storage in the future, I'll move over to Google One. They have a 100GB plan for $19.99 a year, and a 200GB plan for $29.99 a year. If I should happen to need more, Google offers a 2TB plan for $99.99 a year; double the storage of Dropbox.

BTW: I will still have 2GB of free storage at Dropbox, plus 20GB of "earned storage" for a total of 22GB.

Yes, it certainly is small. Then again, the SanDisk 128GB micro-SD card I just bought is smaller than a thumbnail.

It's funny that when I got my start in computing, the Zenith desktop I was using had a pair of 10MB hard disk drives. Physically, they were fairly large.
