  • In an emergency, 9-1-1 calls ME.

Have you been using Firefox Preview for Android? I've been using it since June 2019, and it's been my default browser on my Samsung Note 9 since. However, Firefox Preview is now Firefox Nightly.

Today I had to install and change over to Firefox Beta, which is more stable than Nightly and picks up where Preview left off. Unfortunately I had to start all over with setting things to my liking, but it was a minor irritation. I also very easily installed my favorite add-ons, to include uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, and NoScript Security Suite. The latter was a bit irritating, as I had to green-light my favorite sites one at a time. It would have been nice if all the add-ons, settings and shortcuts had automatically moved over.

Anywho, so far I'm quite pleased with Firefox Beta. It looks and feels exactly like where I left off with Firefox Preview. I would have preferred that Preview would have automatically become Beta instead of Nightly, but now that I have everything set to my liking, I suppose it's all just as well.

The only thing I can say with certainty is that the FF Preview icon is now blue. I think Preview was easier to use than FF and I've been thinking about deleting it.
Does Preview sync with FF on my machine for bookmarks etc?  Is Beta in the Google store?

Preview, Nightly, and Beta all look and work exactly the same. The differences are that "Preview" no longer exists and was replaced by "Nightly", which is updated everyday with experimental features. For all intents and purposes, Beta picked up where Preview left off and is more stable than Nightly. Only the features that are successful in Nightly will make it over to Beta.

All versions allow you to sign in to your Firefox account to sync to your desktop, and Firefox Beta can be downloaded from the Google App store. If you open up what used to be Preview on your phone, you should have a link front-and-center that takes you directly to the Beta download.

As for the old Firefox app, I have not used it since last year after discovering Preview. I deleted the old app from my phone long ago.

I wish I had waited for your answer. Yesterday I looked for the Beta in the App store and didn't see it.  I uninstalled Preview.
So I guess the answer is reinstall Preview (now Nightly) and let it lead me to Beta?

It doesn't matter that you deleted Preview (AKA Nightly). Just download FF Beta directly from Google: Firefox for Android Beta

The link that was in Preview would have taken you to the same place, so you're no better or worse off.

OK, I have accomplished that and signed into my Firefox account.  I haven't tried to do anything with it yet, after lunch maybe.  But thanks for your help.

I'm glad you got it worked out.

I disabled NoScript Security Suite. It breaks nearly every site, and it's too much effort to customize the add-on one site at a time. I kept uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger, though.

I tried Ublock origin and got a popup said not compatible with FF for Android.  Another trick needed?

Did you install it directly from the FF Beta app?

Open up Beta's home screen, go into the 3-dot menu and select "Add-ons", and then select it from the list.

This gets very frustrating. When I open Beta I get a Google search screen, not a home page.  I also don't see a menu option or the familiar 3 dots.

Just to verify... you downloaded "Firefox for Android Beta" from the link above, right?

You likely just have a tab open, which will prevent you from seeing the homepage. Look for a square icon with a number inside of it and select it (the number is for open tabs). The icon will be right next to your address bar.

By selecting the icon you will be able to close out any open tabs and it will take you to the homepage.

Hang in there, it's worth it.

BTW: In addition to my last reply, if you inadvertently touched the address bar, it will take you to the Google search screen and bring up your keyboard. Just close the keyboard and then back track, or simply close out FF Beta and reopen it.

OK, that worked, there were 2 tabs open. Now I'm on what I think is the home page but not particularly impressive looking.  Across the top portion are icons for Google, Top Art and Wiki. I clicked on the 3 dot icon down the bottom and was able to set Beta as the default browser.  And via settings turned on the camera and the microphone, location.
Thanks for your help.

The homepage is rather bland out of the box, but I'm okay with that as I'd rather customize it to my liking. Here's how mine currently looks:

How did you get the search box up top?  Other than that it looks very functional.

I fixed it.
