Title: I have a new Lenovo PC, W10 version 1909, Audio CDs will not play
Post by: hoosier on October 29, 2020, 22:41 hrs

Audio CDs are recognized by my PC, tracks are displayed (and every track is described as "CDA Audio File, 1 KB"), but tracks do not play.  I'm hoping this is a common occurrence----with a simple solution. Any chance of that?    Help please

This is odd, especially with a brand new laptop. I don't have an immediate solution, but I would start with this:

1. Right-click a music file and select "Open with"
2. At minimum, you should have "Groove Music" and "Windows Music Player"
3. Try one or both... did that help?

My computer is a PC, not a laptop. Regardless, I was only offered two "Open Withs" : VLC and Windows Media Players.

I had gotten so used to using VLC, I didn't think to try the Windows Player. It seems to work very well.

Many thanks for the tip. I believe I'll make Windows Media Player my default choice for Video and Audio.

I missed the part of you having a PC and automatically figured it was a laptop. Regardless, I'm glad my solution worked for you.

You may want to give Microsoft's Groove a try, available from the Microsoft App store for free. As for me, I've been using the paid version of MediaMonkey for several years now.

What would be the advantage (or advantages) of using Microsoft Groove ? I'm sure willing to try it.

Microsoft's Groove Music installs with Windows 10, so I'm surprised it's not there. Regardless, Groove Music is a modern music player with a nice, polished interface. It's simply another option that supports most current music files (MP3, FLAC, etc.).

If you're just looking to playback your music, then Groove Music is easy to recommend. The app is free at the MS Store, so no harm in giving it a try. If you're happy with what you have, then there's no need to make any changes.
